Our adventure in Wien officially began with the exploration
in Steinhof Kirche. Steinhof Kirche also called the Church of St. Leopold and it
was designed by Otto Wagne, which was located in Otto Wagner Spital. I was told
by my IKI Deutsch teacher that Kirche am Steinhof is the highest church in Wien
since it located on the crest of the hill.
From the first exploration experience on Thursday that me
and Yuki knew the church was closed on weekdays. It only opens on Saturday on
Sunday afternoon. We went back to Steinhof Kirche on Saturday. It cost us 6
euro to get in to the Kirche, since we are students. It is always a good idea to have yours student ID with when travelling
around. The normal price for the ticket is 8 euro. There is tour offered in the
church to tell you more details about the formation of Steinhof Kirche. However
the weekly tour on Saturday and Sunday was only offered in deutsche. It was so
hard for us to understand the introduction. Guide tour in English is also
offered, if you contact with them earlier.
There are seven saints on windows at the side of the Kirche. They are St. Elisabeth, Rebekka, St. Bernhard, St, Martin, St. Jon v Gott, St. Joh v Matha and Tobias. Each has an explanation above of it.
Images on the ceiling of the Kirche were related to four
evangelists: man of Matthew, the lion of Mark, the Calf for Luck and the eagle
for John.
Since Kirche am Steinhof is located in a hospital, Otto Wagner took patients healthy and connivence into consideration. He used water faucet instead of a sink to prevent them from contagion. Furthermore he made those chairs more smooth that will be safe for patients.
There is an open area in front of the Kirche. People would like to sit on the Chair and
enjoy the scenery of Wein from the crest of a hill, even the kirche was closed. The park near the Kirche also attract many
people to go for a walk.
The weather on Saturday was great. However we were so cold in
the Kirche. Wearing a heavy jacket become one of our advices if you want visit
the Kirche am Steinhof. We found a delicate restaurant around the church called Baumgartnerhohe. It is on the left side of the hospital’s gate nearly 200ms away. As soon as we entered the door, its decorations attracted our eyes. There are three tulips on each table, which are beginning to bloom, and the light inside is warm orange and it seems like we are at home. We ordered their daily special called Kalhnhutlerncknidzel mit Bäilauchpürree und Spargel. It is fried meat pie with bbq souce and some vegetables mashed potatoes. I like the mashed potatoes very much. It combines the sweet of the potatoes and the taste of vegetables. Es schmeckt uns sehr gut!!!! For the dessert, my order is Brownie mit edlen dlümeu und hausgemachtem Schokoladenein. The Brownie is different from American’s. It adds many nuts inside, which made it tastes not too sweet. Cindy ordered an Apfelstudel. It looked like the one we made with Bregitta in IKI.
